Ademend in de stilte van ongeloof, die moeilijk zijn plek kon vinden, kwam ik in beweging. Op mijn fiets trok ik door Amsterdam, mijn geboortestad. De leegte van de straten, de pleinen, de stegen die onze hoofdstad mij toonde, was zo intens voelbaar. Zelfs zijn stilte was hoorbaar; het gefladder van de duiven, de melodieën van carillons uit kerken - geluiden die er altijd al waren, maar overstemd werden. Ik móest fotograferen! De binnenstad, het gesloten hek van onze stadsdierentuin Artis, lege stationshallen van het Centraal Station, het strakke water op de grachten, de verlaten winkelstraten, opgestapelde stoelen en de ingeklapte parasols op de terrassen – en veel boodschappen aan het volk in de vorm van een rood hart – een hart onder de riem. Breathing in the silence of disbelief, which could hardly find its place, I started moving. On my bicycle I was drawn into Amsterdam, my hometown. I felt the emptiness of the streets, the squares, the alleys that Amsterdam showed me, so intensely. Even its silence was audible; the flutter of the pigeons, the melodies of carillons from churches - sounds that had always been there, but were drowned out before. I simply had to take pictures! The city centre, the closed gate of our city zoo Artis, empty station halls at Central Station, the waveless water of the canals, the abandoned shopping streets, stacked chairs and folded parasols at terraces – and many messages to fellow people in the shape of a red heart – a symbol of support.
